Jon Hassell

JON HASSELL

Another oddball, but a constantly stimulating one. I don’t even know if you could call his music "jazz" at all…but it works for me. He was working the “world music “ seam long before the rest of the world…(if I can put it that way…) and his work has always been rich in atmosphere…almost filmic in its direct play on the imagination. "Earthquake Island" Was the first Hassell I encountered, but “City – Works of Fiction“ is my favourite. Shame it doesn’t have a cover by Moebius and Geoff Darrow.
