Hank Mobley

HANK MOBLEY

Underrated ?...you bet!! Ronnie Scott liked him, I think, and I most certainly did and do . His solo on “So What” complete with reed squawk ( Miles 1961 Carnegie Hall concert) pricked up my ears...it seemed heated, yes, but in a cool way...light and airy but kind of desperate, too, and I find paradoxes like that stimulating. I was very happy to stumble on the idea of the bandaged horn and the little rubber caps on his fingers.
